Lofty Professions

"Doctor, lawyer, merchant, chief;"  medicine, law, business, education: The lofty professions.  In today's world, the primary reason for this handle would appear to be salary.  In yesteryear's world, the reason was the ability to think and apply information--two skills to master, when most are lucky to manage one.

So many things in society revolve around professions that demand practical know-how accompanied by theoretical concept.  Ideas and topics of interest that they produce with emphasis on application: Science and technology; the law and government; business and the economy; entrepreneurs/bosses and company "men."

Remarkable practices and insights come from the individuals who spend their lives within these lofty professions. These are what's known as "the real world."

"Tinker, tailor, soldier, spy," as the English nursery rhyme and game go. Individuals who have to practice what they preach if they are to succeed at all.  Actions speak louder than words.  All the cliches in the world that address function and survival--hopefully, beneath the umbrella of responsibility and ethics--are about lofty professions.
